Hello Everyone and welcome to Livewire: E-news for the CCTV Community for August 2010.  Hold on, I have to tend to my BBQ...

There we go, alright where was I? Yeah, summertime. Sum, sum summertime. At CCTV we''ve dodged the tendency to slowdown during these dog days of Summer and instead, embraced the heat the only way we know how, by cranking the AC, and by AC we mean Awesome Content! That''s right, all the way to 11.

We have a bevy of consistent content created by local producers, and the keyword is consistent. Six new shows are produced on an almost weekly basis here at CCTV, making for a busy production hub all summer long. In this issue we'll take some time to highlight one of those producers, the prolific Mara Dolan, who produces and hosts "Right Here, Right Now."

But to be fair. CCTV is always cooking up something, be it a grill load of BBQ Chicken, or a class in media production or editing (which both surprisingly, feature more BBQ sauce than one would think). One thing we've spent a considerable amount of time recently with our SUPER AWESOME NEW EQUIPMENT!!!

SUPER AWESOME NEW EQUIPMENT!

Not to be confused with the Japanese game show of the same name, our super awesome new equipment is a host of brand new high-definition cameras, studio equipment, microphones, accessories, and upgrades that officially launch CCTV into the 21st century of media production.

Without going over each piece of equipment in epic detail (the only type of detail that would do them justice) I will simply list and link:

3 new Flip Ultra Pocket Video Cameras.Sony NX5U
4 new Canon HF S200 High Definition Handycams
4 Sony NX5U 1080 p high Definition Cameras.
4 Rode Video Mic''s.
2 x new HD acquisition boards for our Sony Anycast, (we''ve unleashed the beast within).
1 Aja Ki-Pro capture module to record our Anycast''s new HD output.
4 New Sachtler FSB-4 Tripods will allow for clean and smooth camera work.
2 Insignia 26" HD Monitors for use in the studio.
3 new camera mounted Studio teleprompters. Forget memorizing, these are the real deal.

So there you have it, CCTV will be working on a new training protocol in order to safely and effectively get all interested parties up to speed on working with the new equipment and the new workflow. If you would like to request time with CCTV staff to train on this equipment, email studio@concordtv.org, or call 978-369-5038.

CCTV Producer Profile: Mara Dolan hosts "Right Here, Right Now."

Mara Dolan is a longtime Concord Resident who has been an active participant in the political process since childhood, and has recently taken her voice to the air with "Right Here, Right Now." A talk show that invites viewers behind the headlines of state politics

"I started this show because I wanted to provide viewers with an opportunity to become better informed about how our society works. I want guests from both the public sector, including elected officials, candidates for public office, and policy analysts, and the private sector, including leaders from Mara Dolanbusiness, non-profits, and NGO''s."

In the last few months Mara has become a prolific producer and regular face here at CCTV shooting at least once a week. Her show has featured guests as diverse as Independent Gubernatorial candidate Tim  Cahill, and Congresswoman Nikki Tsongas, to renown New York Times Correspondent Stephen Kinzer

"The ultimate question is: what do you think?  I want to know how my guests see the world and how they want to address what they see...  I want to know where they''re coming from, so that we can all understand one another better, and get better at working together to solve the problems we face today."

Mara has an uncanny ability to get past the political face leaders often try to present to the media.  By asking thoughtful and decisive questions, Mara creates a conversation where seasoned politico''s actually have to think beyond the talking points.

When asked about the goals of her show, Mara states "I want our viewers to come away better informed, more hopeful about our society''s ability to problem solve, and more eager to be a part of it."

New episodes of "Right Here, Right, Now" air weekly on CCTV on Sundays at 2pm and 11pm and on Wednesdays at 9pm.
